10 convicted for smoking in public

10 people including Somali nationals have pleaded guilty to smoking in the public which is illegal.
The group appeared   before City Hall grade one magistrate Patrick Talisuna   who convicted them on their own plea of guilty.

These including Somali nationals have been given different punishments ranging from paying a fine of 100,000 shilling, 480,000shillings and four hours community service respectively.

They were arrested from different areas in   Kampala,  Rubaga division and  Makindye division in the Month of September this year.

Prosecution led by Lydia Batiibwe states that,  the convicts were found smoking a tobacco products in form of  cigarettes which is dangerous to Human health.

The Uganda Tobacco Control Act 2015  Prohibits  smoking in all public places, workplaces, means of transport and other outdoor space within 50metres of a public place.
