Uganda’s team has failed to travel for the 2016 IAAF World Half Marathon because of visa challenges.
The event takes place in Cardiff, UK on Saturday. Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN on Friday that the team failed to travel.
“It is unfortunate we have had to withdraw the team because we failed to get the UK visas from South Africa. We did not receive the visas by Thursday and decided to withdraw,”
Uganda’s team was meant to depart on Wednesday night but the visas had not arrived and the airline they were booked on SN Brussels Airlines has also cancelled the flight following suicide terrorist attacks on Tuesday in Belgium that left 35 people dead.
One of the team members Ben Siwa who won a race at the same Cardiff course last year said he was very disappointed with the development. The other members of the team include; Filex Chemonges and Geoffrey Kusuro.
