DECLARE A COMPREHENSIVE SECURITY APPROACH

Civil society organizations are demanding Uganda government to declare a comprehensive security approach that will put an end to the break in of civil society offices by assailants which is becoming pattern.

In a joint statement released by civil society organizations; Human Rights awareness and promotion forum, human right network Uganda, and Human rights network for Journalists among others says, the Uganda constitution clearly stipulates that, it’s the role of government to protect its citizens and their properties, but due to increasing break ins and attack towards their offices, they are left doubting the kind of protection and security the state is giving providing.

The statement was issued following the violent break in at the Human Rights Awareness and Promotions Forum in Mengo on Saturday 22nd may, killing a security guard called Emanuel Arituha.

Muhamad Ndifuna the Executive director Human rights network Uganda explains the assailants, whose faces were clearly captured by the security cameras, took documents, files including articles and memorandum of association and the flat screen which was at the reception.

Now in just a period of 2 years, four offices have been broken into by assailants.

They are, Human rights network Uganda in Ntinda, Human rights network for journalists in Rubaga, Uganda land alliance in Kamwokya and Human Rights Awareness and Promotions Forum in Mengo.
