FDC asks Museveni to give a clear view on torture

By Robert Segawa

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has urged president Museveni to stop contradicting himself and pretending while addressing issues concerning torture.

FDC Spokesperson Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said that according to his statement on torture, the president encouraged security officers to shoot the rioters and use water canon on them which to Ssemujju portrays him as the beneficiary of torture.

He added that in his statement president Museveni defended those who torture people and also tried to please the public which he condemned.

FDC now wants the individual security officers who torture people to be dismissed with disgrace and charged in civilian courts starting with the Democratic Party activist Yusuf Kawooya tormentors.

Commenting about the 60 Ankole FDC leaders who defected to the New formation of Maj. Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu, Ssemujju said FDC is free entrance and exit before adding that they also launched a recruitment campaign in Teso  region and those who defected are also a target of recruitment.
