Hearing of the rape case of a Makerere University lecturer Prof Christopher Bakunetta set.

The High court in Kampala has fixed 20th/November to start hearing a case in which a Makerere University lecturer prof Christopher Bakunetta is charged with raping his female student . This is after Prof. Bakunetta has pleaed not guilty to rape charges before Justice Jane Frances Abodo.
Court has heard that Bakunetta a professor of ziology at Makerere University on the 29th/March 2016  had carnal knowledge of his a 22 year old female student without her consent .
Prosecution states that the victim was a first year student at the University and was renting on Bakunetta's garage with in the Makerere  University premises. Bakunetta who is out on bail is among the 50 sexual offenders   to be handled in a  special session at the Highcourt that has been   set up to dispose -off cases of sexual and Gender based violence.
The judiciary has set up 13  sessions in selected Highcourt circuits and magistrate courts are to  run from today until 15th/December for purposes of  helping survivors access justice and reduce  on the over 1000 sexual cases which are logged into the system with the oldest being registered in 2013.
However due to a delay in trying these suspects,  court has heard that 2 of them  died while on remand at Luzira prison while seven of them have since jumped bail.
