HMK company bus injures six in Gulu-Kitgum road accident

Six people are receiving treatment in Lacor Hospital for injuries sustained in a bus accident along Gulu - Kitgum road last night.

The bus registration number UAQ 045Q belonging to HMK bus Company, was heading to Kitgum district from Kampala via Gulu.  The incident happened in Ajanyi Village in Cwero Parish, Paicho Sub County at about 8pm. Police blames the accident on reckless driving.

The injured were identified as Patrick Otto, Concy Oyella, a nurse attached to Kitgum hospital, Irene Lakot - a resident of Lacekocot, Godwin Obong, Moses Akera and a five year old minor.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson says the minor got trampled over during a stampede to evacuate the vehicle that landed on its left side.

Stephen Kiiza, the driver of the bus is on the run.

Dr Cyprian Opira, the Executive Director of Lacor Hospital told Uganda Radio network on phone that he is yet to be briefed on the condition of the casualties.

Gulu - Kitgum road is currently under construction with numerous humps and diversions.
