House maid sent to jail over likely spread of AIDS to a minor

A 26 year old house maid who is alleged to have breastfed her boss's nine month old baby while knowing that she is HIV positive has been charged by city hall court.

Margaret Kanyunyuzi appeared before grade one magistrate Beatrice Kainza and pleaded not guilty to the charge of doing an act likely to spread disease.

She has now been remanded to Luzira prison until next month as investigations into the case continues.

According to court documents, the accused is believed to have been breastfeeding the infant every time its mother was not home.

Prosecution states that  Kanyunyuzi a resident of Kyanja in Kampala, between 19th and 25th August 2018 at Katumba zone  Kyanja knowing or having reasons to believe that she was HIV positive breast fed her boss’s 9months baby.

In January this year, the same magistrate  convicted and sentenced an  18year old House maid Jemima Nasifa also known as Tumukunde Zainabu  to 3years in Luzira prison  for also  infecting her boss's two year old toddler with HIV/AIDS.

The convict a resident of Kiwatule, Kazinga zone in Kampala district pleaded guilty to the offence of doing a negligent act likely to spread an  infection or disease  after she was caught redhanded  cutting  herself on the right hand and later putting  her blood on baby’s wound around the nose by the victims mother.
