Police deploy heavily ahead of Besigye's return

A joint force of military and police officers have heavily deployed on Entebbe road ahead of the return of former presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye.

Besigye returns to the country today following one month trip to the United States and United Kingdom.

Presence of both military and regular police officers is visible from Kibuye to Entebbe airport.

At Kibuye round about, a number of soldiers are seen patrolling the area, with about 15 regular police officers. There was however no sign of police deployment at the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party headquarters in Najjanankumbi by press time.

Joint military and anti-riot police officers are stationed at Kawuku trading center and Kisubi police post, about 15kilometers from Entebbe Airport. Heavy deployment is also at the entrance of Entebbe International Airport where Besigye is expected to arrive shortly after 8am from Nairobi, Kenya.

Water Canon and teargas trucks are stationed at Kajjansi police station and Abaita Ababiri trading center.

A number of FDC supporters have already flocked the airport to welcome Besigye. He is expected to address the media on arrival, and thereafter proceed to the party headquarters.

However yesterday, Police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi warned FDC supporters against hooliganism.

Just to add that traffic officers are manning a checkpoint at Kitubulu.
