Besigye Whisked away by police at the airport , taken to his home in Kasangati

Former Presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has been whisked away by police upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport.

Besigye, who arrived at the airport at 8.10 am aboard a Kenya Airways flight, is reported to have been picked by security operatives shortly after he arrived into the country. He had been away for over the month, after visits to the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who was among several opposition leaders at the airport to receive Besigye, says that majority of the FDC dignitaries were blocked from accessing the VIP lounge, where Besigye was expected to address the media shortly after arrival. The lounge was restricted to only five people.

Lukwago says other passengers who were aboard the same flight informed them that Besigye had been whisked away into a waiting vehicle.

URN has learnt from sources that Besigye has taken to his home in Kasangati. There was a brief exchange between Lukwago and the security operatives, including army soldiers, who ordered him and some FDC members to leave the airport.

There was also an exchange between the soldiers and journalists, who had been blocked from entering the airport, unless they displayed their passports and air tickets as proof that they were traveling.

Military and police deployment remains heavy along the Entebbe-Kampala highway.
