Kyamabogo parents worry about employment for their children after graduation

As 7,157 students graduate from Kyambogo university this week some of their parents are skeptical about their future prospects given the high unemployment in the country.

On Wednesday, Prof. John Ssebuwufu, the Kyambogo University Chancellors conferred masters, bachelor's degrees, diplomas and certificates on 1,973 students from various academic disciplines.

The graduation events are expected to last for three days. While most of the graduands are excited about their achievements, their parents and guardians are worried about the future.

45-year-old Rodha Asiimwe is the mother of Pamela Nankunda, who graduated with bachelors of Procurement and Logistics from Kyambogo University on Wednesday.

According to Asiimwe, although her daughter has graduated, she is worried about her future because of job scarcity.

Rev. Kenneth Byarugaba from Bunyororo Kitara Diocese in Hoima District told URN that they were happy having prayed for their children to succeed and graduate from Kyambogo university.

Byarugaba, however, said after making endless sacrifices, their major worry is finding a job for their children.

Despite this, Rev. Byarugaba remains positive about life and thanked Kyambogo University for being tolerant towards parents.

Despite being excited about her graduation, Pamela Nankunda said her worry is finding a job. According to Nankunda, her efforts to find a job immediately after her studies in May didn't yield any results.

Nankunda argues that even if she opts to venture into self-employment her mother may not be able to support her since she has other children to cater for in school.

However, Arnold Namara, a graduate of Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance isn't worried about employment. He thinks everyone has their own chance in getting a job.

Namara says he is ready to accept the challenge and hit the streets in search of employment.
