"I came here to work and improve the football in the country, but payment of my salary has been a big problem," Sredojevic told URN during an interview on Saturday evening at his house in Naguru before he left the country later.
Sredojevic who took over as Uganda Cranes coach in May 2013 terminated his contract last Friday citing failure to pay his salary arrears and bonuses. A source explained that one of the clauses in the contract gives the coach chance to terminate the contract if he is not paid for over three months, but the FA must still pay the debts.
The coach made it clear that although the Federation owes him UGX230 million (US$64,000), they made no attempt to clear part of it as he was willing to listen. "My family has even left this house because the head of the family cannot support them fully," added the tactician.
The 47-year old who guided Uganda to the 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) for the first time after 38-years made it clear that he will return to club football because it keeps a coach much busy than national teams. He is rumoured to be considering a move to South Africa's Orlando Pirates who he handled in 2006/2007.
" I am very sad that I have to leave this way, but I am glad I made an impact in Ugandan football and also helped build so many players and connect them to professional football around the world. I am at the same time glad I opened the highway for Uganda to qualify for 2018 CHAN, 2019 Afcon and 2018 FIFA World Cup.
In a related development Fufa is expected to announce a care-taker coach this morning at their headquarters in Mengo. Moses Basena who has been Sredojevic's assistant is tipped to be named.
The Cranes are due to face Rwanda next month in the final round of the Total CHAN Kenya 2018 qualifier, before September's double header against Egypt in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
