The state minister for primary health care Dr Joyce Moriku Kaduchu is worried with the number of adolescent deliveries in the health centers across the country with the prevalence rate of 24% and in some parts it is as high as 60%.

Speaking to nurses and midwives during their symposium organized by JHPIEGO Uganda an international health organization, Moriku said that out of the 10 deliveries registered in health centers 5 of them are

for teenagers between the age  of 10 to 19 years.

She says that something should be done urgently to control the alarming numbers of teenage pregnancies.

Country director JHPIEGO Uganda Emily Kataikawe said that the symposium was called to discuss how the nurses and midwives being instrumental in saving the lives of mothers and children can position themselves to meet the sustainable development goal number 4 and encourage them to be efficient as those health workers in the private sector.
