Uganda's oil pipeline--NEMA inspects works in Hoima.

In Summary

Led by Deputy Managing Director John Bosco Habumugisha, the EACOP team facilitated the visit to provide the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA)
with first hand insights into project implementation and compliance.

During discussions, East African crude oil pipeline provided updates on the compensation process, revealing that 3,660 individuals affected by pipeline activities have already been compensated.

Government officials comprising of the NEMA Board and the NEMA executive led by Dr. Barirega Akankwasah, and those from the East African crude oil pipeline are inspecting Kilometer Zero, the initial stage of pumping Uganda's oil to the refinery. The Nyamasoga Hoima, Uganda's oil will be fed from two wells of Tilenga and Kingfisher into the main pipeline.

The East African crude oil pipeline will cost a total of  USD 750 million and will run through the10 districts of Hoima, Kikuube, Kakumiro, Kyankwanzi, Gomba, Mubende, Lwengo, Sembabule, Rakai and Kyotera.

Civil works are undertaken by the National Enterprise Corporation the business arm of the Uganda Peoples Defense Force as a subcontractor.

John Habumugisha the deputy managing director East African crude oil pipeline says Uganda's oil wealth is to be fairly commercialized for National benefits.

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) board visited significant sites along the East African crude oil pipeline route in Uganda.

These include the Main Camp and Pipe Yards (MCPYs) and Pumping stations (PS), where early civil works are currently underway.
