The government through the Ministry of Internal Affairs has stopped the replacement of lost passports for Ugandans living abroad after discovering that some sell them off for survival.

In the past citizens, who lose their passports while abroad would go to Ugandan embassies with passport offices to renew their lost passports once they fulfill all the necessary requirements.

Simon Peter Mundeyi, the Ministry's spokesperson noted that this will no longer be allowed because they have discovered that some Ugandans sell off their passports to other Africans for survival and later run for replacement.

“We have received the information that some have sold off their passports for USD 5000 to wrong doers and committed crimes which is illegal and destroys the reputation of the Ugandan passports in some foreign countries"says Mundeyi.

Mundeyi says Ugandans who lose their passports will now have to come back to Uganda to have their lost passports replaced after undergoing thorough investigations and questioning.

This was put in place as a security measure in conjunction with host countries to protect the intergrity of the Ugandan passports which had previously been tarnished.

"We have had few queries of Ugandan's who are living and working in the diaspora who have been experiencing difficulties in renewing there passports” Mundeyi stated.
