Makerere University Seeks 20B UGX for Student Centre & Disability Support Unit

Makerere University has launched the  Fourth Edition of the Makerere University Endowment Fund Run 2024  due to take place  on August 18th, 2024.

The launch was presided over by the State Minister for Youth Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, at Makerere University.

"Let us demonstrate our solidarity with students living with disabilities by purchasing kits and contributing to their well-being and academic success," said State Minister for Youth Affairs, Balaam Barugahara.

According to Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, the vice chancellor Makerere university, The University is looking atleast 20 billion Uganda shillings to construction a state-of-the-art Students' Centre and Disability Support Unit at the University and  part of the money will be collected from this Makerere Run we have launched today Tuesday 23rd 2024'' said

''The #MakRun2024 is open to the public, and participants can register and donate UGX 20,000 to the cause to receive a running vest''. Nawangwe added.

This year's event will be held under the theme "Run for Students with Disabilities" and will raise funds for the construction of a state-of-the-art Students' Centre and Disability Support Unit at Makerere University.

The event aims to bring together students, staff, alumni, and members of the public to support a worthy cause and promote inclusivity and diversity within the university community.

''The Makerere University Endowment Fund was established to receive donations and gifts in support of the University. This fund serves as a financial reserve, comprising stocks, financial assets, and real assets, to ensure financial stability," said Mr. Martin Owiny, a member of the Board of Trustees.

This year's event will be held under the theme "Run for Students with Disabilities" and will raise funds for the construction of a state-of-the-art Students' Centre and Disability Support Unit at Makerere University.

"We are pleased to report modest progress achieved so far as a Board of Trustees. When the current board assumed office in September 2021, the fund's total assets were valued at 8.3 billion, thanks to the efforts of the previous board led by Dr. Martin Alika. I am delighted to announce that the fund has grown from 8.3 billion in 2021 to 11.5 billion, and our corporate objective is to increase this to 20 billion by 2026," said Owiny.
