Parliamentarians want UPDF out of fishing communities

Legislators who represent the fishing communities that  include Buvuma woman member of Parliament,  Nantume Egunyu  ,Bukoli islands MP   Abott Ouma , Kalangala  woman MP Idah Nabayiga have attacked Government for defending  the Uganda People Defense Force officers who are harassing the fisher men at landing sites.

This was after the state minister  for Veteran  Affairs Bright Rwamirama presented a statement to parliament on the behavior of the UPDF officers who are allegedly  torturing  and unlawfully arresting

fishermen at the land sites and defended them as there were using reasonable force to control illegal fishing.

Jinja municipality MP Paul Mwiru suggested that   that the fisheries minister be appointed to stop the UPDF excesses which are not following the law on the fishing community.

The speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga last Wednesday adjourned the house sine die until; Government comes up with a statement on the mistreatment of fisher men.

The MPs were later called to attend plenary after parliament had got confirmation from Government that it will present the statement on the matter.
