PATIENTS SHARE ONE WARD AT NYERO HEALTH CENTER III IN KUMI DISTRICT

The situation at Nyero health center III in Kumi district, Eastern Uganda is worrying. According to the health workers, the facility is overwhelmed by patients and is facing a water crisis.

Patients admitted both in general ward and maternity unit carry water to use while receiving treatment in the hospital.

Opendo Moses,the  in charge of the health center told us that, the hospital now is depending on water from bore holes and each jerrican is at Shs400.

He appeals to the authorities to work upon the processes to ensure that the hospital gets piped water.

The health facility has only two Midwives, Akurut Jennifermary and Ekiringi Jessica.

She added that due to lack of  space, the conditions force them to put mothers on floor during the time of delivery.

Alwalo Rose Olama,a  nurse at the same health center says, they are overwhelmed by patients and have only one section in general ward where all patients, men, women and children that the hospital admits share the same ward. The health center at most serves population 60,000 from Nyero sub county and the neighboring villages.
