Prayers have kicked off in Namugongo as masses continue to arrive

Thousands  of pilgrims continue to flock Namugongo Uganda martyrs shrines ahead of prayers this morning at both the Catholic and Anglican churches in commemoration of the 44 martyrs that were killed by then King Mwanga of Buganda in 1886.
Mass processions started at 9:30am . A choir of 464 members is leading the prayers drawing from the theme, ““The truth will make you free … John 8:32

The leaders for this year’s pilgrimage at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo, Kiyinda Mityana diocese led by Rt. Rev. Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa have re-affirmed their readiness to present a colourful function.

Fr. Guweddeko adds that the choir totaling to over 460 singers was selected in about 30 parishes from Kiyinda-Mityana diocese and is to dress in Kiganda attire.
The Kiyinda Mityana Diocese Choir is set to sing over 300 praising and worship songs in several local languages today in the Uganda martyrs day celebrations mass.
At the protestant shrine prayers will be led by Namirembe diocese headed by Bishop Kityo Luwalira.
The Diocese’s Assistant Music Coordinator Fr. Patrick Kamoga Guweddeko says that they are ready and prepared to lead Christians in praise songs with their instruments.
