A report has shown that many gender laws passed but not implemented.

The primary findings on a research that was carried to measure the Government achievements, performance and possible gaps in gender and development commissioned by civil society organizations, East African sub regional support initiative for the advancement of women (EASSI) and National organization of women organization in Uganda, show that a number of laws to address gender based issues have been enacted but

not implemented.

Releasing the findings in Kampala today, the lead consultant gender barometer Hellen Grace Akwii said that although some practices have been prohibited by laws but are still being practiced in some communities.

Akwii adds that although a number of women in decision making position have increased but still few are in top positions.

The final findings will be presented to the east African legislative assembly as back up evidence, to have the assembly urgently pass the East African gender and development bill.
