Workers representative in Parliament Agnes Kunihira has asked Government to move in quickly and check on the safety and health standards of some still milling companies in eastern Uganda, in order to save workers who die due to occupational accidents.
The Occupational Safety and Health act 2006 requires the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in the Directorate of Labor, in the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development to safe guard the safety of all workers in all work place in Uganda.
Kunihira told parliament that they have received several complaints of cases of workers who have been injured and others died at their work place, due to the negligence of their employers.
