By Gloria Nakiyimba
To every Ugandan, Friday is another day where we all look forward to the weekend to rest after long days of work. That story changes when it comes Daniel Opio and Sandra Achom. Friday 14th September 2018 will always be a special day for them and they will forever remember it in their lives.  Love was in the air!
Daniel and Sandra the winners of the most revered radio promotions country wide; The Capital Radio Big Wedding promotion, were officially married on that day.  They made their marital vows at St. Luke’s Church Ntinda a suburb of the capital Kampala.
The main celebrant Reverend Moses Nyombi   urged the Capital Big wedding couple to always focus on God and love one another until death separates them.
“We have come together in the presence of God, to witness the marriage of Daniel and Sandra, to ask his blessing on them, and to share in their joy” Rev.  Nyombi told the congregation.
He asked the couple to always love the Lord and remain true to each other, asking the congregation to support the couple in their new marital journey. St. Luke Praise and worship choir animated the entire service with song like “To God be the Glory”, Nathaniel Bassy’s “Imela”, Stand amazed, to which the church sung in unison as they celebrated the newlywed couple.
Capital Radio has been running the big wedding promotion for six years now. According to  Mr. Peter Mungoma the General Manager at Capital radio “ the rationale for running this promotion is our way of giving back to our loyal listeners by doing something that is truly inspiring for young aspiring couples that would like to get married but for one reason or another do not have an opportunity to”. Mr Mungoma is proud that Capital radio has been able to make happy couples across the country for the last six years.
“At Capital radio we saw this as an opportunity to be a part of this very important occasion in people’s lives. We as a station believe that the family is the core of society and therefore anything that we can do as a station to promote that makes it something valuable to be a part of “he told the congregation.
He congratulated Daniel and Sandra the winners and wished them all the best in their marital life. The couple that won the competition by more than 1000 votes from listeners hosted their guests at the lush green Sheraton Gardens at Sheraton Hotel Kampala that provided food, changing rooms and two nights for the couple.
Hair by Ziwa did the makeup and hair for the couple, the men wore sleek suits from, Paple Rayn Hub, while the bride’s gown and bridal entourage dresses were done by none other than Brenda Maraka. Vick land distributors provided four cousins wine for the wedding reception, while Nile Breweries provided different tribes of beer at the event. Soft drinks were in plenty courtesy of Coca-Cola. The Public Address system, ambient lighting, Giant LED screens, LED Dance floor platform that added more pomp to the reception was provided by Events Ware House. Tents 4 you provided the tents, tables and chairs that accommodated the guests.
Rwanda Air is flying the couple to Cape Town South Africa for their four day honey moon.
Gordon Amanya and Cathy Atwiine won the first Big Wedding in 2013 through a completion on the Kisementi based Radio station. Other big wedding winners are Christopher Mutabaazi and Maureen Kyomuhendo,  David Ssekito and Florence Nakiganda, Steve and Koina, and Brenda and Albert.
