A man has been fined 1.5 million shillings or face three months in jail for illegal possession of protected species. Another man has been handed a six month jail sentence for the same offence.
Gumwa Daniel and Calvin Mwanje appeared before Buganda road chief magistrate James Eremye who handed them the sentence for possessing 64 pieces of hippo teeth and 15.6 kilograms of warthog teeth.
They committed the offence in August 2016 at Arua Park in Kampala and Makindye division. Court has also ordered prosecution to hand over the exhibits to Uganda Wildlife Authority for safe custody.
