Two policemen attacked on duty and left dead near Queen Elizabeth National Park

Unknown people have ambushed and killed two police officers near Queen Elizabeth National Park in Kasese district this morning.

Mansur Suwed, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, confirms the attack that took place in Kikorongo, Katwe Sub County.

Suwed identifies the dead as Danson Tweheyo and Ronald Kalemeera both attached to the Tourism police. He says they were guarding Simpa Safari Camp located in Kikorongo when they were attacked.

The assailants also grabbed two guns from the officers and disappeared with them. Each of the guns, according to Suwed, had 38 rounds of ammunition.

The latest attack comes just two days after Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga visited the district and launched the Rwenzori Peace Symposium organised by Nyabaghole Agnes Ithungu, the wife of Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere.
