Power company UMEME has launched a nationwide campaign to fight power theft and vandalism.
UMEME’s managing director Celestine Babungi says the company loses more than 100 billion shillings every year as result of power theft and vandalism of power equipment annually.
Speaking at the launch of the collective fight Babungi noted this has resulted into power outages and dangerous power surges.
He warns that anyone caught stealing power will be arrested and face stiff penalties.
