Three students of Makerere University have been arrested during the running battles between the police and students as the strike against the 60 per cent fees policy enters day two.

According to the policy passed by the university council, all students are required to pay 60 per cent of their tuition by the sixth week of the semester or they miss the tests.

The students who are mainly surrounding the main building are demanding that the policy be reviewed to allow them settle the 60% fees during the 13th week of the semester and not 6th week as it is

now.

Some of the students leaders Nasala Brian, Simon Senyonga and Luyinda Fred Disney tells Capital Radio that the university administration needs to find a permanent solution to this problem as the strikes have

been on and off since 2005.

However Senyonga a law student calls fellow students to halt the strike as they wait for the decision of the university council due tomorrow, although he is optimistic that nothing much will come out of

it.

A private student Luyinda Fred blames the Government for pushing all the burden of paying school fees to the private students.
