At least seven Forum for Democratic Change- FDC party supporters accused of staging an illegal demonstration spent a night at Nagalama police station in Mukono district. They were rounded up at Nagalama police station on Tuesday evening as they accompanied FDC national leaders to see Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former FDC party president.

Siraj Bakaleke, the Kampala North Regional Police Commander, says the FDC youth are wanted for staging an illegal demonstration.  According to Bakaleke, the youth are part of the group, which had earlier in the day blocked the Kampala-Mukono road to protest Besigye's arrest.

On Tuesday morning, Police intercepted Dr. Besigye at Mulago junction and took him to Kiira road police station before he was transferred to Nagalama police station following his disagreements with police on the route he should use to access the FDC party headquarters in Najjanakumbi for prayers.

According Bakaleke, the FDC supporters will be taken to court once police investigations are complete. But Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the FDC Secretary General, has dismissed the arrest of the FDC supporters as uncalled for since they were peaceful. He expressed fear for the safety of the supporters, saying Nagalama Police Station is known for torture.

According to Nandala, they expected to police to release the party supporters together with Besigye last night but they were told to return this morning, which he thinks is unreasonable. He appealed to police to stop witch hunting FDC party supporters, saying thing may change one day.
