64th Common Wealth Parliamentary Conference commences

President Museveni has today, officially opened the 64th common Wealth Parliamentary Conference that is taking place at the Speke Resort, Munyonyo.

While speaking at the conference, the President called upon the democratic member countries of this conference to peacefully work with each other and respect the uniqueness of member states.

Museveni also urged the delegates to use their numbers (about 2.5 billion )to mutually promote investment , security , culture and trade with other international countries. In his welcome remarks he assured the delegates of the overall safety to explore Uganda and discover why it is indeed named the pearl of Africa.

Uganda proudly hosts the 64th common wealth parliamentary conference which she last hosted 52 years.Since then ,there has been evolution in the parliament .This landmark event delves into the theme of 'Adaptation, engagement , evolution of parliaments in a rapidly changing Commonwealth.

Some of the major issues to be confronted are climate change , individual and group terrorism ,hunger . One of the assignments for national parliaments ,is to promote , plan for and monitor the effective implementation of the sustainable development goals .Matters to discuss in this conference include the concern about rapid unplanned urbanization ,science and technology innovations that enable parliaments to work smarter.
