Twaweza Uganda and Ministry of Health  alongside artists across Uganda have  launched a new song titled “Gemwa”   to continue encouraging people to go for covid19 vaccination.                                   

The “Gemwa “ song that was endorsed by the Ministry Of Health features a total of twelve artists from all regions of the country including David Lutalo ,Daddy Andre ,Evy Treyz,Yaled Kaluya ,Phina Masanyalaze among others.

Speaking at the launch of the song Dr. Richard Kabanda the Ag Commissioner for Ministry of Health said that the government is aware of the power music has  that’s why they collaborated for an awareness song and also highlighted the Ministry’s intentions to work with musicians beyond the vaccination drive.

From December 2020 and January 2021 Twaweza Uganda a civil society organization that advocates for education and Government’s practical problem solving to the people, collected  data from three districts such as Kampala,Tororo identified as high risk for covid19 on citizens, the data showed that between one to three out of ten residents in the three districts were un willing to get vaccinated due to the mistrust they had in the vaccines.

The Country Leader for Twaweza Uganda , Violet Alinda noted that they are excited to have been part of turning data into a song to try to overcome vaccine hesitancy.
