Veterinary doctors in the country are calling on parliament to amend the Animal Welfare Act to ensure animal rights are observed.

Dr.  Dominic Lali Munduru Ogo, chairperson  of the Veterinary association  has noted that the Animal Welfare Act which is in place came into operation in 1952 and it’s now old and weak adding that  because of delays to amend some of animal laws, the disease control is becoming a challenge to farmers because of the rampant movement of animals without permits.

He made the remarks at the Uganda veterinary symposium in Kampala that has attracted over 200 veterinary doctors from Uganda and Kenya to discuss how to strengthen the governance of veterinary service delivery  in the region.
