National unity platform (NUP) say it  will not participate  in the forthcoming  elections for East Africa Legislative assembly until the ruling NRM  takes the exercise serious and allow other political parties to choose their own candidates.

The leader of opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga made the statement while responding to Speaker Annet Anita Among who said  that even though they had received some names from other parties,   they were yet to receive names  from NUP.

Mpuuga says that the ruling party believes that they should select their own members but at the same time choose candidates for other political parties,  saying that NUP will not bow to such pressure.

He noted  that unless the selection of members to represent Uganda to the  legislative assembly stops being a ritual and  becomes an election, they will  not be participating.

''NUP will only participate in elections where the rules of the game and political parties are respected" he said

Kiira municipality mp Ibrahim Semujju Nganda supported Mpuga's argument saying that the  speaker Anita Among  was one time  stopped from joining EALA by NRM while she was still in FDC.

Bugiri municipality mp Asumani Basalirwa said that the speaker her self petitioned court after NRM failed her to join the assembly and the courts of law guided on how the positions in EALA can be equitably shared among the political parties in Parliament.

NUP has the biggest number  of members among st the opposition political parties in  Parliament. The term of current EALA will willend on the 17th of December this year .
