The Ministry of internal affairs has asked the people with evidence that their staff at the Airport are corrupt and extorting money from passengers to  report to the relevant authorities with so that they can be investigated and have the culprits arrested .

Simon Peter Mundeyi the Ministry of Internal affairs spokesperson however warned that they will also not hesitate to arrest anyone caught bribing their staff f at Entebbe Airport especially those that want quick services.

Last week, the public raised alarm over  corruption and extortion by Entebbe Airport staff who were accused of asking for bribes in dollars from travelers before allowing them to board, and so many claimed to have missed their flights because they refused to give in to such demands.

In a statement issued by the Director Immigration and Citizenship Major General Apollo Kasiita Agowa says , the ministry has put in place several measures to curb the vice of corruption and extortion at the airport.

As one of the measure, immigration staff have been banned from using  mobile phones while on duty .

" All immigration staff  must be in full uniform  complete with name tags on their shirts. Immigration staff will now not use phones while at work in the booth, in office . Phones have been forbidden to our staff who are handling the public especially at the airport" Mundeyi explained.

This is after authorities and institutions in charge of the Airport met their staff on Friday and some were suspended pending investigations.

Mundeyi the Ministry of Internal affairs spokesperson revealed that some of the allegations are sensational and defamatory in nature without any proof backing up them, noting that anyone who accuses their staff without credible evidence will be dragged to court.
