The World Bank mission is appraising the progress of ongoing road works in Ntungamo municipality.

Led by Stephen Ajalu, the Senior Urban Development Specialist at the World Bank, he says there has been a tremendous positive change due to a number of achievements registered both under Institutional Strengthening Grant (ISG) and Municipal Development Grant (MDG)

Relatedly, ongoing, is the implementation Support Mission for the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) ahead of additional Financing during April 24 – May 5, 2023.

According to Joseph Oryokot , Acting Country Manager,World Bank, the overall objective of the mission is to assess progress of the implementation of various activities under the program.

Others include, reviewing the impact of swept resources on implementation of activities, identifying what activities have stalled and what actions are planned to get implementation moving, assess the fiduciary issues, including the financial status, outstanding procurements, and contract management.

In addition, the mission is assessing the Safeguards Audits and progress of other sub activities implemented under the Refugee Window (Physical planning and Systematic Land Adjudication and certification).

The World Bank is also assessing the performance of the institutional support to Ministry of Lands,Housing and Urban Development and discuss plans and activities required for program closure on December 31, 2023.

The mission will hold meetings with the different Ministries, Departments and Agencies implementing the Program, and conduct field visits to the selected Cities/Municipal Councils.

Ntungamo Municipal Council has been receiving funds each financial year for four years since its commencement totaling up to Ugx 15,262,341,922 of which Ugx 14,170,183,910 was Municipal Development Grant (MDG) and Ugx 1,092,158,012 was Institutional Strengthening Grant (ISG).

Among the Municipalities in Western Uganda, undertaking part of the $360 million dollar USMID projects being inspected by the World Bank mission includes Kabale, Ntungamo, Kasese and Mbarara City.
