The Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has mourned the passing on of the late Dokolo District Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal in India where she was taken to receive specialized treatment.

She has hailed her for having been a mentor, a mother, a unifying factor in parliament.

“Hon. Cecilia Ogwal, would always tell you to never allow to be undermined because of gender. Some of us were motivated to join politics because of her. Everybody in the house was either a daughter, son or a brother to her,” remarked Among.

“She would unite the opposition with the ruling government. When she sees that the house is tensed up, she would get up and when she would speak, all would be silent. That is the Cecilia we have lost,” she adds.

The speaker notes that parliament, Lango parliamentary forum together with the family are working hard to repatriate the body back home and they will keep the country posted on the next program.

The late served as a member of parliament from 1996 2006 and from 2006 to date were he represented Lira municipality and Dokolo district respectively, she was also a secretary general for UPC in 1985,

She was also a member of the constituency assembly where she played a vital role in shaping the 1995 constitution, she was an accountant, she served as a member of the pan African parliament and she always advocated for rule of law.

Other Members of Parliament we have talked to are still in shock following the death of their senior female colleague on the Forum for Democratic Change ticket, Hon. Cecilia Ogwal.

Sheema District woman MP, Rosemary Nyakikongoro and Mawokota South MP Yusuf Nsibambi say that she will be missed for her sense of commitment to duty and her effort to reconcile party divisions, respectively.

Ogwal was a straightforward politician who was not easily intimidated when she talked on issues related to the development of the community and the country.

Former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga has also described the late Dokolo Woman MP, Cecilia Ogwal as an honest politician who gave her time to mentor and advise younger MPs, while the Democratic Party General Secretary and EALA MP Hon Gerald Siranda, has described the Late as a nationalist and patriot who supported the politics of reconciliation.
