165 Military Officers Complete Intensive Middle-Level Commanders Training

A total of 165 military officers, including five from the Republic of Burkina Faso, have successfully completed a four-month training program for middle-level commanders at the School of Infantry in Bihanga, Ibanda District.
While passing out the officers, UPDF Commander of Land Forces, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, commended the officers for their dedication and noted that the training had transformed them into capable commanders, well-prepared to navigate the evolving dynamics of modern warfare.
He emphasized that the combination of discipline and advanced knowledge they had gained would allow them to execute their duties with precision.
Lt Gen Muhanga also praised the allied officers from Burkina Faso for their outstanding performance both in the classroom and during field exercises.
“I commend the officers from Burkina Faso for their exceptional conduct and results during training. Uganda and Burkina Faso share a common ideology, and it’s worth remembering that the late HE Thomas Sankara once visited Uganda,” he remarked.
The Commander stressed the importance of maintaining discipline, upholding the values of their roles, and ensuring excellence in executing military tasks. He highlighted that discipline is crucial to career progression and advised the officers to value their health as an asset.
Brig Gen Godfrey Golooba, Commandant of the School of Infantry, described the Company Commanders' Course as an operations-intensive program aimed at enhancing leadership, tactical expertise, and operational capability for middle-level commanders.
The objective, he said, is to equip these officers with broad leadership skills to manage tactical challenges effectively.
The course included both classroom instruction and hands-on field exercises, with officers participating in guided tours of specialized units such as the Air Force, Artillery Division, and Armoured Warfare Training Centre. These activities, Brig Gen Golooba noted, gave the officers valuable insights into various military assets and their applications in different formations.
“I want to extend my gratitude to the formation commanders for their excellent organization and the knowledge imparted to the officers during the study tours. These experiences have been instrumental in helping the officers become familiar with the diverse assets available across the forces,” Brig Gen Golooba added.
He advised the officers to focus on building trust within their teams, setting clear priorities, supporting their subordinates, seeking continual self-improvement, and ensuring constant communication.
Brig.Gen also stressed the importance of leading by example, delegating effectively, and maintaining physical fitness.
