The incoming Uganda Law Society (ULS) Governing Council, led by the newly elected President, Counsel Isaac Ssemakade, was sworn in today at Fairway Hotel.

The ceremony was officiated by His Worship, Faisal Mulalira, the Judiciary's Deputy Registrar.

In his inaugural address, Ssemakade emphasized his commitment to serving all Ugandans in the pursuit of justice, with a particular focus on land matters and upholding the rule of law.

He reiterated the need for an independent Bar and took the opportunity to remind the Attorney General of Uganda, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, and the Solicitor General—both represented at the event—that they are not eligible for ULS Council membership, as their roles align them with representing the state rather than the independent Bar.

Ssemakade, alongside eight other newly elected Council members, took both the official oath and the oath of secrecy.

The new team includes four regional representatives: Emmanuel Egalo Omyati (Northern Uganda), Nyanguru Eddy (Eastern Region), Muhumuza Samuel (Western Uganda), and Tuyramusiima Geoffrey (Central Region).

Other members sworn in were Arthur Isiko, ULS Treasurer; Munaabi Philip, ULS Secretary; and Anthony Asiimwe, Vice President.

Vice President Asiimwe assured the public that the new Radical Bar will work to ensure that even the most economically disadvantaged Ugandans have access to justice, pledging to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete actions in support of this goal.
