The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has successfully concluded its 18th National Council meeting under the leadership of National Chairman Hon. Jack Sabiiti.

The high-level gathering, which serves as the second apex organ of the party after the National Delegates Conference, was held under the theme “Beyond all obstacles: A cohesive FDC on the path to success.”The meeting, was a critical moment for the party as it gears up for the 2026 general elections.

During the council meeting, several strategic decisions were made to strengthen the party’s internal structures and ensure robust participation in the upcoming elections including,The  Appointments of new members in the National Executive Committees, which saw the council fill key vacancies within the National Executive Committee (NEC).

These included Hon. Joab Businge, MP for Masindi Municipality, as Deputy President in charge of Western Uganda, Muhammad Khalifa Mbentyo as Deputy Secretary for Mobilization and Organization in charge of the Eastern Region, Denis Rom, Amuru District LC5 Chairman, as Deputy Secretary for Agriculture.

The council approved an interim National Electoral Commission to oversee upcoming elections within the party, with  The approved members which saw  Toterebuka Boniface Bamwenda remain as the Chairman of the EC.The commissioners include Judith Kabanda,  Priscilla Mpirirwe, Al Hajj Abdul Hakim Moli, Joe Emusu Ediegu, Dr. Alex Okot, and Kudeeba Richard.

The council unanimously approved the 2025/2026 financial Budget presented by Treasurer General, Hon. Geoffrey Ekanya, which was designed to streamline the party’s activities as it focuses on election preparedness.

The council also Confirmed its Participation in 2the 026 General Elections, and as a strategy to strengthen the party’s electoral strategy, council members were tasked with identifying and recommending qualified candidates from their respective regions and districts.

The National Council also announced that internal elections will take place by January 2025, setting the stage for a fully-prepared FDC ahead of the 2026 elections and members vowed to move forward as a united and formidable force in Uganda’s political landscape."

The theme of the council meeting, “Beyond all obstacles: A cohesive FDC on the path to success,” reflected the party’s determination to overcome internal and external challenges in the run-up to 2026."

 

Chairman  Jack Sabiiti said He further said that With a renewed focus on structural reforms, electoral preparedness, and member mobilization, the FDC is positioning itself as a major contender in the upcoming elections.

 "The council’s decisions mark a pivotal moment in the party’s journey, reinforcing its motto: One Uganda, One People." He stated.
