Police have filed charges of assault and simple robbery against a woman captured in a viral video attacking a traffic officer over the weekend.

The suspect, identified as Mercy Tibitwire Ishasha, was allegedly involved in an accident with a boda boda rider.

Instead of stopping, she reportedly fled the scene and continued driving until she reached the UMA showgrounds in Lugogo.

Upon arriving at the showgrounds, Tibitwire parked her car and locked herself inside.

When traffic officers approached her and requested her driving permit, she allegedly confiscated two mobile phones and a device from Police Constable Charles Makawa. During the altercation, she is said to have insulted and intimidated the officer.

Kituuma Rusoke, the Police Spokesperson, confirmed that Tibitwire also physically assaulted Constable Makawa, slapping him during the confrontation.

"We have filed multiple charges against her, including traffic violations such as failure to comply with a police officer's directives, careless driving, and driving without valid insurance," Rusoke stated. "Her actions suggest a disregard for traffic regulations."

In addition to the traffic offenses, Tibitwire has been charged with assault and simple robbery. She was arrested, spent the weekend in police custody, and is awaiting prosecution in court.
