The Chairperson of Kampala District Land Board, David Balondemu, has been granted a five million cash bail by Buganda Road Court.

Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi also ordered Balondemu to deposit his passport with the court and not to travel outside the country without the court's permission.

His four sureties, including his wife, young sister, and brother-in-law, were each ordered to execute a non cash bond of 20 million.

The case has been adjourned to November 26 2024  after the prosecution led by Viola Tusingwire informed the court that investigations in the said case are complete.

On Wednesday , the state objected to his release, citing serious concerns that he may flee the country since his sureties are not substantial. However, the court ruled that his securities were substantial among other bail conditions that he had satisfied.

Balondemu was arrested on October 11th, 2024, at Entebbe International Airport, after charges were leveled against him for forging a medical document in a bid to secure temporary release in an earlier fraud case.

The charges stem from an incident in 2023 where Balondemu allegedly forged a prescription form and CT scan from Kampala Hospital, falsely claiming that he was a patient.

These documents were presented as part of his defense in a case involving the fraudulent acquisition of USD 50,000 from KG Unlimited LLC, where he falsely promised to secure a contract for agricultural supplies to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Balondemu is jointly charged with Dr. Hassan Segujja, a medical doctor from Mulago Hospital who is currently on the run.

The prosecution has urged the court to proceed with the hearing as investigations have been concluded.

The court has further extended the warrant of arrest against  Dr.Hassan Segujja until November.
