Nine University students who were arrested for allegedly carrying out a non-planned demostration in support of  a resolution by the European Union to delay the construction of  the Ugandan  Oil pipeline have been granted bail by Buganda Road Court.

Grade one magistrate Fedelis Otwao ordered each student to pay 100,000 shillings cash, while their sureties were each ordered to execute a non cash Court bond of five million.

The Court has ordered them to return back to court for further mention of their case on the 25th of this month.

The group was arrested on the  4th of October at Kingdom Kampala building as they attempted to match at European Union offices at Crested Towers in Kampala to deliver their petition.

They were arraigned before Court  and denied the offence of being a common nuisance.

Prosecution claims that the students blocked major path ways in the exercise of their rights to be rowdy there by inconveniencing members of the public.

This came after the European Union made a resolution advising the Government of Uganda to delay the Oil pipeline construction, from Uganda to Mombasa,  until issues of gross Human Rights abuses mainly surrounding the acquisition of land in the affected areas in Uganda were addressed.

However, in the past week, there were multiple protests carried out by other students from primary to university demonstrating against the said decision,  but Police never blocked them, and instead offered them protection to match to the European Union premises to present their petition.
