Erias Lukwago Takes Charge Amid FDC Party Disputes in Uganda

Hajji Elias Lukwago the Forum for Democratic change vice president for Buganda region has been elected as Interim president of FDC party replacing his boss Patrick Amuriat Oboi.
This morning a faction of FDC delegates based at Katonga road have agreed to suspend the Party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi and replaced him with his deputy Elias Lukwago also City Mayor.The defiant faction went on with delagates conference called by FDC party chairman Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa despite Police's refusal to provide them with security and court order barring them from holding the conference.
The FDC Katonga faction also agreed to suspend FDC secretary general Nathan Nandala Mafabi and party treasurer Geofrey Ekanya.Harold Kaija has been appointed as Interim secretary general to replace Nathan Nandala Mafabi who was suspended and also appointed Francis Mwijukye as party treasurer replacing Geofrey Ekanya.
At first the meeting was to be held at Nature's green beach Busabala but was stopped by heavy deployment of police who put barricades in all roads connect to Busabala by searching each and every vehicle too and from Busabala.A group of goons ( Kifeesi) some previously seen at FDC offices beating journalists, were again sighted in a group of over 200 beating delegates from Busia others were seen snatching bags and mobile phones from residents and bypassers in Busabala trading center.
At Katonga premises police fired teargas to a group of FDC supporters and also blocked road heading to people's government offices.Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman Patrick Onyango said that they deployed their officers to deter people who were planning to engage in criminal activities.
