The National Drug Authority--Uganda is asking members of the public to start reporting side effects of drugs they take in form of treatment.
The Board Chairperson at the National Drug Authority Dr Medard Bitekyerezo made the remarks at the ongoing International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) conference being hosted in Uganda.
The conference brings together regulators, researchers, representatives from industry and other stakeholders in pharmacovigilance across the African continent and has brought together over 300 participants from across Africa to discuss issues pertinent to medicine .

Dr Medard Bitekyerezo says reporting side effects of drugs helps medical workers to re examine and administer treatment and also report the problem to the manufacturer.
The conference will stregthen Networking where through the regional and country chapters, ISoP will continue tosupport management of country and regional specific pharmacovigilance challenges.
Pharmacovigilance is the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other medicine/vaccine related problem. All medicines and vaccines undergo rigorous testing for safety and through clinical trials before they are authorized for use.
