Jumia records over 50% sales in first week of Black Friday

Jumia, one of Uganda’s leading e-commerce platforms reports a 50 percent growth on customers in its first week of the Black Friday campaign.

The campaign started on 5th and will run up to 28th November.

The sales are great as they saw a more than 50% growth on customers this year compared to last year.

Tesar says category shopping has however shifted mainly from electronics and other expensive items to affordable, useful every day commodities such rice, noodles, cooking oil, among others, people are looking at making savings, he adds.

He also points out that Covid 19 restrictions has over all accelerated online business both on the side of the customer and the supplier.

Customers are happy to have items delivered to their homes while businesses are now expanding, that is a positive for us even though generally the economy is still hurting.

On the issue of quality, Tesar says they have they do not limit anyone who wants to sale on Jumia as long as their items are of quality. We must screen and verify the item to make sure that the customer gets exactly what they have ordered for.

He adds that they have a generous return policy, of 7days where by incase a customer is not happy with the item they can return and will be given their money back.
