UDB launches 2nd Cohort of the Graduate Apprenticeship Program (GAP)

Uganda Development Bank has unveiled the 2nd Graduate Apprenticeship Program to provide hand-on skills development and job opportunities to upcoming professionals for 12 months.

The Bank’ s Director Strategy and Corporate Affairs, Joshua Allan Mwesiga noted that due to the absence of a specialized institution for development finance training in the country, the bank is seeking  to contribute, by employing those who successfully complete the program.

“The bank seeks to contribute to development of these skills and competencies by identifying high achieving young individuals with high entrepreneurial and managerial promise, and by skilling them appropriately” he said.

Graduates to be selected must be below 30 years of age, obtained first class degrees and second upper degrees. They should as well have been pursuing, engineering with a bias in mechanical, software, irrigation and agro-processing engineering.

Others include; data management, mathematics, computer science, architecture, statistics and quantitative economics, environmental science from a reputable recognized university.

“At the end of their training, the apprentices will have acquired the relevant competencies required for various roles; those that will have successfully completed the program, demonstrated the right attitude, conduct and attitude will be absorbed into the banks service,” Mwesiga added.

The number of beneficiaries has been raised from four in the first cohort to eight in the second cohort and will be retained in the organisation upon successful completion of training.

According to bank officials, the deadline for receipt of applications is 30th September 2022.
