Uganda -European Union Business Forum Kicks off

Uganda’s 3rd European Union and Uganda Business Summit (UEUBF) has on Tuesday 5th March 2024 started with over 3600 participants taking part both physically and online.

The event under theme: Boosting Trade and Investments happening at the Speke Resort, Munyonyo has attracted groups of investors from across Europe Union which include France, German, Netherlands, Portugal, Ireland, Sweden, Poland among others.

According to EU ambassador Jan Sadek, the participants have arrived with interest to invest in key sectors in sustainable social and economic agriculture, oil and gas, energy, digital, minerals and enabling infrastructure,

“Over 100 companies are represented with the objective of attracting investment and increasing trade in Uganda. The summit will attract new companies from EU and also support those existing in Uganda,” he said.

Sadek added that the Global Gateway is the EU goal and commended the current trade relationship with a turnover of 1.5b Euros.

“Uganda has a positive trade balance with EU, and this is very different with other countries where Uganda is exporting,” he added.

The ambassador, Jan Sadek further noted that coffee remains the largest export product from Uganda to Europe. 

According to him, Europe countries buy 65% of Uganda's coffee export adding that this explains the role that coffee plays in boosting Uganda's economy.

Speaking at the same business forum, the chairperson of Uganda Investment authority Morrison Rwakakamba noted that Uganda Government has managed to put together an investment Land-Bank equivalent to 84 square miles of land across the country to offer free land to investors to set up factories.
