East Africa civil society rebukes government

By Deo Wasswa

The east Africa civil society forum is asking the Uganda government to respect the treaties and charters it signs both on African level and world level.

Speaking to journalists, Martha Makenge, the coordinator of the forum has noted that the government should pay attention especially to charters that speak to Human rights violation, rule of law, good governance and democracy in Uganda.

She says the government must be on fore front in mobilizing its citizen in implementing African charter on democracy,  free and fair elections and good governance.

The African charter on democracy, election and good governance was created by the African Union in 2007 as a roadmap to encourage better governance across the continent

This follows the recent incidents where rights of Members of parliament , journalists and several other ordinary people  were being violated by security operatives, the latest being recorded in Arua during the municipality MP elections.
