British Ugandan Poet George Mpanga a.k.a George the Poet was awarded an Honorary Degree in Literature by the University of London for making substantial contributions to public life and the University.

He was awarded  a Honorary degree together with Joanna David an English actress, Margaret  MarcMillan a Canadian Historian, Mary Chinerey-Hesse a Ghanian International  Civil Servant and Diplomat .

In the statement London University said that George and the three other remarkable individuals received Honours  for making substantial contributions to public life and the University in very different ways  

The  honorary degrees were presented  by the University's Chancellor Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal at the University of London's Foundation day.

George shared his happiness of receiving this degree through his socials as he thanked whoever supported him in the struggle of making such a big achievement.

George's style of musical poetry has made him register several milestone including performing his poem "The Beauty of Union" at the Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018
