The South African –born American Billionaire Elon Musk hit a deal to buy Twitter with a promise to reduce censorship on the platform which Human rights groups and some Twitter users are worried about.

The Billionaire struck a deal to buy Twitter at $44 billion but Human rights groups have raised concern that a lack of moderation could lead to a rise in hate speech.

Not only Human rights groups but also many Twitter users are asking whether Musk’s take over means that even the accounts suspended by the company will be allowed back and the most high-profile person to have been suspended was America’s Former President Donald Trump.

Several Twitter users have already left the platform well as others are threatening to leave due to the fear that the platform may be lawless, hateful, xenophobic, and bigoted.

However, the European Commission (EU) warned Mr. Musk that he must protect users.

Thierry Breton, the Commissioner for the Internal Market at the (EU) executive, warned in a tweet that social media, any company operating in Europe needs to comply with the rules - regardless of their shareholding

He added that its new online rules will overhaul the digital market, including how tech giants operate.

Elon Musk is the world's richest person, according to Forbes magazine, with an estimated net worth of $273.6bn mostly due to his shareholding in electric vehicle maker Tesla which he runs. He also leads the aerospace firm Space.
