Ugandan singer Edrisa Musuuza alias Eddy Kenzo, has been nominated in the 2023 Grammy Awards for his feature on Matt B’s song titled “Gimme Love”.
The nominations for the 65th annual Grammy awards were announced on Tuesday 15th November 2022 ahead of the ceremony that will take place on 5th February 2023 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Eddy Kenzo was nominated for the Best Global Music Performance, a category that the academy introduced last year (2021) after transforming it from Best World Music Album.
“Gimme Love” that was released in May 2022 is an anthem in which Kenzo sings about the much love he has for his lover while also yearning for more love.
This makes Eddy Kenzo the first Ugandan artist to be nominated at the Grammy Awards, a dream he has always shared with his fans.
Kenzo has also won numerous national and international awards, including a BET Award in 2015, a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award in 2018, and multiple other continental awards.
The song is competing with a number of other hit songs such as Last Last by Burna Boy, Udhero Na by Arooj Aftab and Anoushka Shankar, Neva Bow Down by Rocky Dawuni featuring Blvk H3ro, and Bayethe Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode.
Other nominees at the 2023 Grammy Awards include Adele, Beyonce, Burna Boy, Kendrick Lamar and Harry Styles among others. The Awards ceremony will be held on 5th February 2023 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile the category in which Kenzo has been nominated in was broken into two categories Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance and the first edition of the award last year (2021) was taken by Angelique Kidjo for the album, Mother Nature, while Arooj Aftab took the award for best performance for her single Mohabbat.
