”The Girl In the Yellow Jumper” wins big at the IKON Awards

Uganda’s first movie on Netflix ”The Girl In The Yellow Jumper” by Loukman Ali scooped five awards at the IKON awards that were held on 25th March 2023.

The IKON awards is a new annual initiative that recognizes and rewards implementers and personalities in Film and Television in Uganda. This year when ”The Girl In the Yellow Jumper” won big was their first year of existence and they took place from Kampala Serena Hotel.

The movie won five awards in several categories such as Best Director of cinematography(Naizi Nasser), Best Actor in a Leading Role(Michael Wawuyo Jr), Best Editor(Loukman Ali), Best Sound(Quad A), and Best Visual Effects(Loukman Ali). Loukman Ali also added another ward-Best Short Film for “Sixteen Rounds”.

Another movie titled ”Kafa Coh” won five awards including Best Director (Mirembe Doreen and Gilbert Lukaliya), Best Film(Doreen Mirembe), Best actress in a supporting role( Rehema Nanfuka), Best Production Design(Rhonnie Nkalubo and Robina Nansubuga) and Best Makeup and Special Effects(Shakirah Kibirige).

Other movies that scooped more than one award were  Bedroom Chains by Nisha Kalema with two "Best Costume Designer(Irene Sseremba)", and "Best Actress in a leading role(Nisha Kalema)", Prestige, a TV series by Nathan Magoola with two awards, "Best TV Series(Nathan Magoola)" and "Best Actress in TV series(Sally Elizabeth Bwamimpeke)" and a Documentary ” Pius” by Brian Mukisa won Best Student Film and Best Documentary.

The vibrant event was graced by Veteran Actor Ramsey Nouah and hosted by Anita Fabiola together with Uncle Mo and saw a number of performances from different artists like Benti Boys, Irene Ntale, and Ricky man among others. The trends on the red carpet were also highlights of the night as different personalities showed off their fashion. Below is the list of the IKON Award winners.
