Tina Turner dies at 83

The American-born singer Tina Turner commonly known as Queen of Rock 'n' Roll   has died at the age of 83.                 

Turner died in  her home in Kusnatch  after a long illness .She had suffered a number of health issues in recent years including cancer, a stroke and kidney failure.

The sad news was announced by her  publicist Bernard Doherty  who revealed that  the star died peacefully .

Turner’s official Instagram account hailed her boundless passion for life adding that she inspired the future stars.

She was born on November 26th , 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, USA and  became famous in the late 60s as the singer of the band Ike & Tina Turner Revue, but later she became successful worldwide as a solo artist.

With her music and her inexhaustible vitality, Tina  thrilled millions of fans and inspired many artists of subsequent generations.

Through her musical journey, the star made global hits such as ‘What’s Love Got To Do With it’, ‘Private Dancer’ and ‘The Best’, together with wining over 5 Grammy awards .

She also starred in films including the 1985 Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome , We Don't Need Another Hero - and The Who's 1975 rock opera Tommy as the Acid Queen.

She got  married to  her long-time German lover , the music executive Erwin Bach, in a Swiss civil ceremony in 2013 and has lived in Switzerland with him since 1994. 

It was a second marriage for the music star, who was previously married to musician Ike from 1962 to 1978.

In her 1986 book, the singer narrated a harrowing tale of abuse, including suffering a broken nose during the course of her marriage with  Ike.
